Wonderful World.

A collaborative project made for Global Games Jam 2020. The theme “Repair” my team and I decided to make a post-apocalyptic farming simulator where player focuses on rebuilding the world by growing various plants and inviting fellow survivors to the shelter.

Games Design.

For this project, I worked on designing a dynamic weather system which affected various parts of the shelter. This was to give the player a challenge as they faced what the world has to offer.

Collaboration.

This being my first games jam project, I had to quickly adapt with working with new people and a tight time constraint. This meant I had to be quick and efficient with my workflow and communication. Collaborating on projects like this has improved my team working and communication skills greatly, alongside my ability to work fast.

Team of Seven:

Adam Green (Tech)

Alex Moyes (Character Artist)

Benjamin Leiter (Design/Tech)

Billy Kane (Design)

Lee Griffth (Design)

Lee Morrell (Design/Tech)

Myself (Design/Tech)

Technical Design/Scripting.

For the project, I worked on implementing a dynamic weather system which affects various parts of the shelter alongside proximity turrets.

The proximity turrets were able to sense bandits from a certain distance away and focus on shooting them before they destroyed the crops.

For the dynamic weather system, I created a random sequence of weather to affect the shelter. The weather had four key events which included sunny, acid rain, freak snow storm and sandstorm. The sunny weather did not affect the farm. Acid rain caused the players’ plants to slowly die. The freak snow storm caused the plants growth to slow down and the sandstorm blocked the turrets rendering the farm defenceless.
